Broward has no licensed burn unit; burn patients go to Jackson Memorial or HCA Florida Kendall in Miami-Dade. Florida Medical Center is a former Steward hospital now run by Healthcare Systems of America (HSA).
Only the two public hospital districts reach 300% FPL, and where the patient lives decides which one applies. Broward Health covers north and central Broward; Memorial covers the South Broward Hospital District (Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Miramar and nearby).
Broward Health's full assistance still has copays. Approved patients up to 300% FPL pay $10, $25 or $50 depending on income. Its policy (effective July 2023) requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, though the October 2025 summary doesn't mention immigration status. Asylum applicants should confirm with Broward Health.
Memorial is free only to 200%, but discounts are deep above that. A patient at 250–300% FPL pays roughly 10–17% of the bill. Free care also requires liquid assets under $10,000, and non-residents of the district get no help for non-emergency care.
Cleveland Clinic is free to 250%, the highest ceiling among the private hospitals, but requires six months as a legal resident of Broward or one of three Treasure Coast counties.
HSA is the only system that explicitly accepts undocumented patients. In Broward that means Florida Medical Center.
Only one hospital, Memorial Regional South, has none of the four specialty designations. HCA Florida Plantation Emergency, the former Plantation General, is now a freestanding ER under HCA Westside and is not included.

How to ask for financial assistance at each Broward hospital
No particular words make a patient qualify. Eligibility depends on income, household size, residency and sometimes immigration status, and patients must answer truthfully. What the right words do is make sure an eligible patient asks for the correct program, at the right time, without giving up help by accident. Read this before you need care.
